D • I • E ABSTRACT REALITY
AT THE RUHRTRIENNALE, SEPTEMBER 2021
The drawings of Albert Oehlen are transformed into holograms by Thomas Stammer, a multi media visualist. The audience is surrounded by these images that constantly change, in time with the music. A technical sophistication with great power in its abstraction.
WDR 3 Mosaic Michael Struck-Schloen
White on black holographic versions of the sketches from Oehlen’s charcoal drawings, transformed by Thomas Stammer, flicker on gauze panels, being porous eye-catchers of a virtual horizon. From a central position, conductor Titus Engel seeks to assemble the piercing patchwork into a coherent whole, with cool gestures and click-track button in ear.
DER TAGESSPIEGEL Albrecht Thielmann 19.09.2021
For the „holographic music visualization“ (as it is ambitiously but aptly called) Thomas Stammer has positioned ten canvas sails for the projections on the four walls of the hall rectangle. There is a catwalk and several platforms for the five protagonists and the musicians. The spectators are distributed in the center of the hall, seated on swivel chairs….
This total work of art of the experimental kind is completed by the holographic visualizations of Albert Oehlen’s abstractions. They provide an optical correspondence to every musical turn, explosion, slowdown or acceleration. Living changing abstractions accord to the motto „Image becomes the sound!“ Or vice versa?
